The RAPID project of Malaysia’s Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) has begun production after the crude oil distillation unit (CDU), a key device contracted by Sinopec Engineering Incorporation (SEI), recently started operation.
RAPID, which is short for Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development, is the largest engineering project in Malaysia within the recent 20 years. Petronas will diversify its types of oil products and improve product quality, after the CDU, with a design processing capacity of 15 million tons of crude oil per year, being completed and put into production.
The CDU operation has been a key milestone for the RAPID project. Dr Colin Wong Hee Huing, Senior Vice President of Petronas, spoke highly of SEI for its leading role in facility mechanical completion among the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) package contractors.
SEI Deputy General Manager Zhao Xiangdong celebrated the successful start, during which the SEI team was also praised as a model EPCC contractor who lived up to the concept of “One Team, One Goal”.
