In a statement, RockRose, which listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2016, said it would pay $140 million for Marathon's North Sea and West of Shetland assets, becoming operator of the Brae area fields, which feed the Forties pipeline, and are earmarked for decommissioning. RockRose will also receive Marathon's working capital and cash balances associated with the assets, worth $350 million, Marathon said in a statement. RockRose is taking on all of Marathon's potentially sizeable decommissioning liability for the assets, the US company noted. "Today's announcement to divest our UK business represents our continued commitment to portfolio management and further concentrates our portfolio on high-margin, high-return US resource plays," Marathon Oil chairman Lee Tillman said. The deal roughly doubles the reserves and production of RockRose.
