The Gullfaks complex to which Visund is connected is a major production center. Last month Equinor unveiled plans by it and its partners to invest NOK2.3 billion ($270 million) in extracting 17 million barrels of oil from a relatively untapped part of Gullfaks, the Shetland/Lista tight carbonate reservoir. Discovered in 1978, Gullfaks is thought to have held more than 2 billion barrels of recoverable oil, a volume supplemented by nearby discoveries. Current production is around 150,000 b/d, including fields that use the same facilities. The light Gullfaks blend is offloaded from the facilities by shuttle tanker.
