Baker Hughes: US rig count falls 12 units to 886
The US drilling rig count dropped 12 units to reach 886 rigs working for the week ended Sept. 13. The count is down 169 units from the 1,055 rigs working this time a year ago, according to Baker Hughes data.
Ten fewer rigs were drilling on land week-over-week, bringing that number to 870. Two fewer rigs were counted offshore, bringing to 26 the total number of units drilling. Inland waters were unchanged with no rigs working for the week.
US oil-directed rigs dropped 5 units from last week to 733 units working and were down from the 867 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-directed rigs fell by 7 units to 153, down 33 units from the 186 units drilling for gas a year ago.
Among the major oil and gas-producing states, three states saw unit increases week over week. With a 2-rig increase, Pennsylvania’s rig count stood at 36. Oklahoma, 76, and North Dakota, 55, each saw a single-unit increase.
The largest decrease in units for the week was in Texas where an 8-unit decrease left 430 rigs running. West Virginia dropped 3 units to end the week with 16 rigs running. With 58 rigs running, Louisiana saw a 2-unit decrease for the week.
Four states dropped a single rig: Colorado, 26; California 17; Ohio, 11; and Alaska, 7.
Three states remained unchanged: New Mexico, 108; Wyoming, 36; and Utah, 6.
Canada dropped 13 rigs for the week. With 134 rigs running, the count is 92 fewer than the 226 units drilling this week a year ago.
The number of oil-directed rigs in Canada fell by 9 units, bringing the count to 93 rigs for the week. Four fewer gas-directed rigs were drilling, for a total of 41 units for the week.
