Canadian oil production to drop 6.6% in 2020: CER Canadian oil production is expected to drop 6.6% in 2020 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, lower demand and lower prices, Kallanish Energy reports. Oil production in Canada will gradually recover through the rest of 2020, after producers cut nearly 1 million barrels per day earlier this year. That new assessment came earlier this week from the Canada Energy Regulator (CER). The federal government agency said it expects 2020 oil production to average about 4.38 million barrels per day. That would be a drop from the 4.69 million barrels per day in 2019, The Canadian Press reported. That figure was artificially lowered because the province of Alberta had curtailed production in an effort boost Canadian oil prices. That total was up from the 4.58 million barrels per day in 2018. Last June, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers predicted that oil and gas producers would spend $23.3 billion on oil production in 2020. That was down from the $37 billion that had been predicted by the group last January. |
