US Seen as Swing Supplier for Global LNG The coronavirus pandemic is highlighting the US's role as a swing supplier of liquefied natural gas in the global market, "which could portend trouble in the future," says BTU Analytics' Connor McLean. Daily deliveries of natural gas to LNG export facilities have certainly been swinging recently, dropping to as low as 2.2B cubic feet per day this summer to a new high this week of more than 10 bcf. "US LNG exports to Europe fell by over 90% from March to August, by far the largest decline among the world's largest LNG exporters [Australia, Qatar, Russia and the US]," McLean says. "A similar dynamic is evident in Asia, although to a lesser degree." |
